Near Vertical Incident Skywave (NVIS) Antenna for EmComm

Presenter: Gerhard (Gary) Spangenberg KF4GGK

Forum Description:   As a member of the Pickens County Communications Group ( wx4pg.org ) I developed a presentation that uses WSPR and VSWR measurements to demonstrate the performance of an NVIS double bazooka antenna on a single support ten feet above ground.

Topics to include:
  • What is most effective for communicating in mountainous terrain?
  • What is the F-Layer?
  • What is the best dipole antenna configuration that does not need a tuner, and has negligible impedance variation with altitude?
  • Implementation of a 40m NVIS antenna.
  • Coverage radius as a function of inverted V angle using a WSPR Beacon.
  • Impedance variation as a function of the inverted V angle.

Then followed by Q&A
